W.I. to celebrate Heritage Day

The Rainy River District Women’s Institute will be celebrating Heritage Day with a fun-filled day of events on Feb. 15 at the Emo Legion.
You’re all encouraged to join the W.I. for lunch, door prizes, bake sale, raffles and lots more.
The cost is $7, with proceeds going to the W.I. Museum.

Another fun-filled day to mark on your calendar is the Healthy Community Coalition’s Family Day, which will take place Feb. 18 from noon-4 p.m. The activities are for residents of the municipalities of Emo, La Vallee, and Chapple.
Come to the Emo/La Vallee Community Centre to skate, play shinny hockey and board games, and watch movies. There also will be free popcorn and hot chocolate.

Cards played at the Devlin Hall last Tuesday (Jan. 29) were won by Larry Kellar and Lois Shine. The low went to Norbert Bragg and Pat Busch.

The annual Betty Kellar Memorial card tournament, held Feb. 1 at the Emo Legion, was well-attended.
Taking the high in 500 were Jim and Yvonne Kellar, with the low going to Norbert Bragg and Ron McQuaker. For cribbage, Bill and Debbie Martin had the high while and Shannon and Kim Kellar were the low.

There will be a Valentine’s dance this Saturday (Feb. 9) from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. at the Emo Legion. The band “Just Friends” will provide the music.
The cost is $10 and a lunch will be provided.

Last Wednesday’s card games at the Emo Legion were won by Darlene Bruce and Ester Elias. The low went to Rudy Meyers and Joan Buttazoni.
There will be cards played at the Emo Legion this Sunday (Feb. 10) at 1 p.m. sharp.

The Dev-Lynne’s gas draw was won by Ken McCormick, who took home a sandwich maker.
Be sure to enter the monthly draw every time you purchase $25 or more of gas there.

The Crossroads boys will compete in a basketball tournament Feb. 16 at Robert Moore School. The girls will compete the same day at St. Francis School.

A reminder the La Vallee municipal office will be closed Monday, Feb. 18 in observation of Family Day.

The history book committee is still working hard on the second edition. Members have been gathering and journaling about names on the cenotaph in Devlin.
The committee still is looking for information for F. Jeffrey.

Devlin Hall bookings now are being taken through the municipal office.
And just a reminder to residents—please don’t take hot ashes to the landfill.
