At its June 6 meeting, the Rainy River District School Board recognized the contributions of two individuals with its Volunteer of the Year award, as well as honoured retirees.
Selena Vanasse of Rainy River and Jimmy Warren of Atikokan were recognized for their volunteer service.
Vanasse offered her time toward the hot lunch program at Riverview School, helping out on every hot lunch day and filling in when the hot lunch co-ordinator was unable to be there.
Warren volunteered to supervise every winter trip of the Atikokan High School Outers Program, and also assisted with the staff safety plan and transporting of equipment.
“Volunteers continue to be an indispensable part of the Rainy River District School Board team,” said board chair Dianne McCormack.
“They support and enhance the work of the board; without them, many programs, activities and events just couldn’t happen,” she stressed.
“We sincerely appreciate all of our volunteers.”
Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the board recognized retiring employees and employees attaining 25 years of service.
By the end of this school year, a total of 11 staff members will have retired from the Rainy River District School Board, with a total of seven staff members receiving the distinction for 25 years of service.
