Two nurse practitioners complement physicians

The Fort Frances Community Clinic now has two nurse practitioners working for our community.
Marlyss Thiessen has been an employee of the clinic since October. In March, we also welcomed Cathy Bock to our team.
With two nurse practitioners in place, patients now have improved access to timely health care. Wait times to see a primary health care provider have been greatly reduced to only a day or two—and often the same day.
Nurse practitioners are licensed to perform 80 percent of what a physician does. They perform health assessments and can order necessary tests.
Nurse practitioners are fully qualified to diagnose minor illness and injury.
In addition, they can prescribe many prescriptions and monitor chronic disease conditions. A large part of what nurse practitioners provide is preventive care and education.
Since they take more time with each patient, they are able to provide health teaching, life-style counselling, stress management, and monitoring of ongoing health problems.
Nurse practitioners do not replace your family doctor. Instead, they complement the care you get from your family doctor—ensuring your physician is kept informed of your progress.
All registered patients with the clinic can access the services of nurse practitioners at the Fort Frances Community Clinic.
If you are having a hard time getting in to see your regular physician, make an appointment with a nurse practitioner today. They will collaborate with your doctor to ensure you get the best care possible.
