Two mishaps probed

From the OPP

The Rainy River District OPP responded to two serious motor-vehicle collisions here early yesterday afternoon.
At 12:12 p.m., police and the Rainy River District Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to 500 block of Second Street East, near the intersection of Armit Avenue South, where a 46-year-old male was struck by a vehicle.
The male was taken to hospital for further medical attention.
Then just before 12:25 p.m., officers and emergency services were advised of a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Fifth Street East and Portage Avenue North.
Both incidents currently are under investigation.
Police are advising the travelling public to be cognizant of their surroundings at all times.
In related news, the local OPP is participating in the annual fall seatbelt campaign.
Failure to bucket up is a $240 fine and two demerit points.
The use of seatbelts reduces the likelihood of serious injuries in the event of a crash.
