Trio of new fires reported

Three new forest fires were reported in the Northwest Region by yesterday afternoon.
Red Lake Fire #22 is located near the community of Pikangikum.
The 0.5-hectare blaze was reported in the early afternoon and listed as “not under control” at last report.
Fort Frances Fire #5, another afternoon start, was four hectares in size near Silvertip Lake.
It also was listed as “not under control” at last report.
A 0.1-hectare fire that was reported in Nipigon District near mid-day has been declared out.
The forest fire hazard is “high” to “extreme” across most of the Northwest Region.
Residents are advised to be aware of local burning restrictions and use extreme caution with open fires of any kind.
