Trio fined over bait smuggling

Three U.S. residents have been fined after trying to smuggle live bait into Ontario through the Canada Customs entry station on Sand Point Lake in Rainy River District.
William W. Timpe, 72, of Crystal Lake, Ill., was fined $880 for bringing roughly five pounds of live leeches into Ontario for use as bait on July 11, 2008.
Brenda Lea Sehlin-Goneau, 48, of Rockford, Mn., was fined $615 for bringing live leeches into Ontario for use as bait on July 31, 2008 while Robert James Langtry, 66, of Forest Lake, Mn., was fined $615 for bringing roughly three dozen live minnows into Ontario for use as bait on Aug. 14, 2008.
In all cases, the live bait was seized and later turned over to a conservation officer.
