The La Verendrye Hospital Auxiliary held its monthly executive meeting on March 1 in the hospital boardroom.
President Susan Robertson reported on the joint spring conference, which will be held April 8-9 at La Place Rendez-Vous.
Delegates will be attending the conference from across Northwestern Ontario.
The auxiliary will pay the registration and luncheon fee for any of its members who wish to attend.
Application forms were sent out with the recent newsletter.
Some of the planned activities for the Saturday session include a presentation on privacy and ethics by Laurie Lundale, a Tai Chi demonstration by Carol Mackintosh, and a presentation on community paramedicine by David Black.
The business meeting also will be held that day.
In other news, gift shop manager Monica Sus presented her report, which outlined the problems in merchandising faced by small operations such as the gift shop.
Effective April 1, the shop will operate Monday to Friday from 12:30-3:30 p.m.
Members interested in working in the shop, or on the cart, are asked to call Sus at 274-7043.
Robertson also advised that the Quarter-Century Club’s annual banquet will be held Wednesday, April 6 at the Legion.
This year, one of our members will be honoured for 50 years of service.
Social director Janet Lambert reported that a staff appreciation coffee break was held for hospital workers on Feb. 12.
Michelle McFayden won the door prize.
Auxiliary historian Joy Lockman, meanwhile, advised that she is looking for pictures of auxiliary activities which took place over the past year as she is starting to put together the 2015 album.
Dixie Badiuk reported that the popular “Rocking for a Reason” once again will be held in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce’s business expo, which this year runs April 22-23 at the Fort Frances Curling Club.
Ann Wood, Judy Webster, and Fran Hahkala will be assisting with the project.
Joy Lockman also accepted the position of convener of the annual “Strawberry Social,” which will be held on the hospital grounds in June.
Finally, Irene Laing presented the nomination report and indicated some vacancies still exist.
