Town council briefs

Staff

During Monday night’s regular meeting, town council:
•referred a financial request from Irene Laing, District 1A Senior Games Committee—Sister Kennedy Centre, to the Administration and Finance executive committee for its recommendation, with input from the Community Services executive committee;
•referred a letter from Colonization Road East resident Cheryl Armstrong, requesting a review of the town’s prohibited animal bylaw, to the Planning and Development executive committee for its recommendation (she has concerns over a neighbour’s chickens);
•referred a letter from King’s Highway residents Ahlan and Judith Johanson, requesting a review of the municipal property standards bylaw, to the Planning and Development executive committee for its recommendation (they have concerns over the state of a neighbour’s property);
•referred a notice from Glenn Treftlin, secretary-treasurer of the Rainy River District Municipal Association, re: the 2016 per capita levy to the Administration and Finance executive committee for its recommendation (the RRDMA is asking for $0.45 per capita, or $3,579.75);
•referred a letter from First Street East resident Melvin Haukaas, re: laneway elevation concerns, to the Operations and Facilities executive committee for its recommendation;
•passed a bylaw to authorize the execution of a contract agreement with Kingdom Construction Ltd., for the replacement of the wastewater treatment plant screen and biosolids dewatering system, as awarded through the public tender process;
•received a request from Lt. David Small, Troop Commander Guns, 116th Independent Field Battery, Royal Canadian Artillery, Canadian Armed Forces, to use a portion of the parking lot at the Memorial Sports Centre (he is hoping to bring artillery here in October for a public display to promote the 16th Independent Field Battery, which is based in Kenora); and
•received an invitation from the Rainy River Future Development Corp. re: its annual general meeting on June 21 (council members can attend but won’t receive remuneration).
