The “Friends of Animals” campaign got a boost with fundraising during the 2001 Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship.
The group raised $3,000 during the tournament with their bingo under the big tent, tackle box and lure raffle and by providing clean up for the tournament.
“We were given a sum for cleaning,” explained the committee’s secretary treasurer Mary Pasechko. “We want to thank the bass tournament committee for giving us the opportunity for fundraising.”
“And of course many thanks to all our volunteers who helped us with bingo, selling tickets in the booth and clean up,” she added.
The committee also received a donation from the tournament’s third place winners.
“Thanks to the team of Harry Bell and John Maffei for their $250 donation,” said Pasechko.
The money will be added to that raised by Safeway here for a new shelter in Fort Frances.
“The moneys raised from this fundraiser are going into our fund to build a shelter to house the many unwanted and abandoned animals across the district,” Pasechko added.
To date Safeway has raised $16,385 for the Friends of Animals with a goal of $25,500 set to be reached by mid-September.
