From the OPP
The Kenora OPP is continuing to ask for the public’s assistance in locating a 16-year-old girl from there who was reported missing Feb. 28.
Delaine Copenace was last seen in the downtown area the previous evening.
She is described as First Nation, 5’10”, with long black hair and brown eyes.
She was last seen wearing black Etnie skater-type shoes, black-zippered sweater, a “bullet for my valentine” T-shirt, and black jeans with zippered pockets.
The search has expanded into the surrounding areas of Kenora, and is continuing with the assistance of the OPP Northwest Region Emergency Response Team, the OPP’s K9 Unit, and the OPP Provincial Liaison Team.
The Canadian Pacific Police Service, Treaty #3 Police, Lake of the Woods Search and Rescue, the Canadian Centre for Child Protection, and a large number of community volunteers also are helping with the search.
Anyone who has seen Copenace, or knows of her whereabouts, is asked to contact the Kenora OPP at 1-807-548-5534 or call 1-888-310-1122.
The ongoing investigation is continuing under the direction of Det. Insp. Randy Heida of the OPP’s Criminal Investigation Branch.
The OPP is asking that any information which is provided by the public is shared with the police first before posting onto social media platforms.
By doing so, this will allow investigators an opportunity to thoroughly investigate the content of each and every tip that is received.
At this point in the investigation, the OPP wishes to acknowledge the continued support of local citizens who have enabled police to follow up on information by allowing the search of their properties, including a number of private residences.
Citizens are being asked to continue to check personal property, yards, outbuildings, and outdoor areas.
