Auditions for the third-annual Rainy River Festival for the Performing Arts’ talent show were held last Thursday at Knox United Church here.
There were 19 performances and all of them did very well.
There was a range of vocal pieces and piano performances, along with a violin, trombones, and even a ukulele duet.
The show itself goes next Thursday (Feb. 2) starting at 6:30 p.m. at Knox United.
Admission is $5.
A fundraiser bake sale also will be held starting at 6:15 p.m. and then continuing after the show.
At the audition, the performers had a chance to get comfortable with the space and the equipment.
Some people have not had an opportunity to use a microphone so the performers had a chance to see what would work best for them.
Some preferred to hold the mic while others found that putting it on a stand worked for them (performers were given advice if they were unsure).
They also had a chance to ensure their recorded accompaniment was compatible with the sound system at Knox.
Diane Maxey and Kayla Hahkala volunteered their time and expertise to listen to the performers in order to give feedback and encouragement.
Tara Grant and Maureen Hahkala, meanwhile, assisted with the lineup, registration, and sound system setup.
The talent show is an excellent opportunity for the performers to experience what it’s like to get up in front of an audience.
Some have experience while others are doing it for the first time.
The festival committee would like to thank the community for the support it has received in the past.
It also hopes everyone can come out on Feb. 2 and enjoy the work these young people have put into their performances.
