Succession bylaw needed

Dear Mr. Editor:
We have just completed an expensive, unnecessary byelection that ought not have taken place. The message served on Fort Frances town council is one of resounding support for appointment to fill vacancies by succession.
I would like to take this opportunity to call on Fort Frances council to implement a succession bylaw. This is necessary for several reasons:
1. It removes council prejudice against any candidate who was next in succession in the municipal polls.
2. A bylaw would establish permanent rules requiring the voters’ choice by succession be elevated into the vacant position (competed for) for that given term of council.
If there is a problem with any given candidate, the next municipal election would address the matter in a democratic way.
3. A succession bylaw would prevent any council from spending tax dollars on an unnecessary byelection in an attempt to remove a candidate (who already went before the electorate) in an effort to place their friends into this vacancy.
I believe this byelection served a strong message on this council they ought not ignore.
I have asked to be placed on the next council agenda in an effort to promote the formation of a succession bylaw so this costly, needless embarrassment never happens again.
