The La Vallee Fire and Emergency Service is going door-to-door to provide information about smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, and home escape plans as part of a new fire safety campaign.
These visits began last night (Oct. 3) and will continue again tonight (Oct. 4) from 6-9 p.m.
They also will continue next Tuesday and Wednesday (Oct. 10-11) at the same time.
The Fire and Emergency Service will have a limited number of combination smoke/carbon monoxide alarms with them that will be available for purchase for anyone who needs or wants one (exact cash only).
A newsletter sent out to La Vallee residents explained this is not a home inspection but rather a door-to-door campaign to pass on fire safety information in the community.
It also is noted that only residential properties north of the CN tracks will be completed this year, with properties south of the tracks to be done next year.
“The plan is to conduct this program this year in La Vallee Township, evaluate it, and expand and develop it further in some capacity across all four municipalities,” Chapple, Emo, La Vallee, and Alberton Fire Chief Joshua Colling told the Times.
He added they also will be willing to share any part of the program with any interested municipality.
They also are sending an information sheet out to every resident in La Vallee concerning smoke/carbon monoxide alarms, where they should be placed, and the importance of having a home escape plan that everyone is familiar with in case of a fire.
The program and information coincide with Fire Prevention Week, which runs Oct. 8-14.
