RRCC hosting art exhibit

Art instructor Harley McDaniel is displaying an exhibit until Feb. 28 at Rainy River Community College over in International Falls.
The exhibit features the work of artist Maria Sonia Martin, who holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with high honours from Florida International University, studying under artists James Couper, Richard Duncan, and Ralph Buckley.
McDaniel also will host a reception in the artist’s honour today (Feb. 15) at 6 p.m. at the Theater Lounge area at the college.
This artist’s body of work explores the internal condition of the human being by investigating the spiritual and psychological forces that are within man.
Through the years, her work has evolved in various phases, consisting mainly of paintings on canvas and drawings on paper using a variety of mediums.
She also recently has begun producing sculpture in stone, bronze, and mixed media.
“In my work, I seek to unite, to strive for mutual empathy and respect for one another,” Martin said. “When observing my work, it is my fervent hope that the viewer is moved to this understanding.”
The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.
