Press Release
The Boston Pizza Royals PeeWee ‘AA’ hockey team fell short of bringing home the gold Nov. 29 in East Grand Forks, Mn.
The local squad started play Friday by derailing the Winnipeg East Railcats 4-1.
The host East Grand Forks Blue Line Club then rocked the Royals 9-0 on Saturday morning.
But after regrouping and getting their mindset back in “game mode,” the Royals swam with the Regina Sharks—and instead of getting eaten by the sharks, they swallowed them up with a 7-2 victory.
The Royals finished second in their pool with a 2-1 record, which put them in the bronze-medal game against the second-place team in the other pool–the Devils’ Lake Blue Line Club.
The horns and pitchforks of the Devils certainly did not intimidate the Royals, who burned the Devils Lake squad with a 5-1 win.
The Royals now have earned a silver and bronze finish in two tournaments. The team next travels to Kenora this weekend in hopes of bringing home the gold.
The squad opens action Friday at 12:30 p.m. when they face their rivals, the Dryden Paper Kings, then will meet St. James at 3:30 p.m.
Saturday’s match-ups will include games against Baudette and host Kenora, with the playoff and championship games slated for Sunday.
