Regional pucksters off to strong starts

The Team Ontario North boys’ and girls’ hockey teams have jumped out to good starts at the National Aboriginal Hockey Championship being held in Membertou, N.S.
Fort Frances native Ethan Carlson-Jourdain, representing Couchiching, earned an assist on the game-winning goal yesterday as Team Ontario North cruised to a 5-1 victory over Team Eastern Door & North to improve their record to 2-0-1.
The squad had battled to a 4-4 tie with the defending champion Team Manitoba on Tuesday, with Carlson-Jourdain assisting on the game-tying goal.
Team Ontario North had opened the tourney Sunday with a 6-2 drubbing of Team North.
Carlson-Jourdain was held off of the scoresheet in that one.

On the girls’ side, Team Ontario North, which includes local resident Annalise (CC) Hayes, had a 2-1-0 record heading into this morning’s game against Team Ontario South (result wasn’t known as of press time).
The squad opened play Sunday with a 7-4 win over Team Atlantic, with Hayes assisting on a second-period tally.
