Residents in the west end woke up to flooded yards, and minimal water pressure, when a watermain experienced a “quick and violent” rupture in the 1000 block of Sunset Drive, around 6:30 a.m. this morning. The rupture surfaced quickly, resulting in a loss of 500,000 gallons of water from the tower in just a few minutes, before crews arrived on the scene, according to Travis Rob, Manager of Operations and Facilities. The block will be closed to traffic as crews repair the break. Although water was restored quickly, anyone experiencing discolouration should run their cold taps for 30 minutes, said Rob. Is discoloration persists, call 274-9893.
