There almost were as many smiles as there were fish in the water for the first-ever “Kids Gone Fishing” event to kick off the 16th-annual Emo Walleye Classic yesterday.
The combination of Ophelia Lucas-Engberg from Devlin, above left, and Emo’s Tia Wagar were guided by Amber Hughes and her dad, Irwin, as two of the 15 participants from Donald Young, Crossroads, and Sturgeon Creek schools.
At right, defending champs Ted Heyens of Stratton and Kelvin Caul from Devlin were the first of the 33 teams entered to head out from the Front Street boat launch this morning.
The weigh-ins get underway at 3:30 p.m. both today and tomorrow at the Emo-La Vallee Arena.
