Walking in honour

Hundreds of people donned their orange shirts and participated in the Walk in Honour of the Children and Survivors of residential schools on July 1. The walk, organized by Allan Yerxa, took participants from the Sorting Gap Marina down the highway to the Ste. Marguerite’s Indian Residential School Memorial on Couchiching First Nation. Drummers led the march along the waterfront, and once at the memorial site, more drum songs were performed, while dignitaries, community leaders, elders and others were invited to speak and share their stories. –Ken Kellar photos
