Walking for water

Water Walk copy

Carrying a copper bucket filled with water collected from Hudson Bay at Churchill, Man., local youth Carissa Copenace—flanked by Jaqueline Boileau and John Danard, along with 50-plus local participants—entered Fort Frances as part of the “2011 Mother Earth Water Walk” which has been winding its way across the region. The bucket steadily is making its way to the shores of Lake Superior in Wisconsin, where it will meet up with three other buckets drawn from the waters of the Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, and Gulf of Mexico. The walk is meant to remind people of the sacredness of water and how it is essential for all life, as well as call on everyone to conserve and protect this resource for generations to come.
