For the last six weeks a tree with glimmering red lights has shone at the Treaty Three Police detachment on Idylwild Dr. with a small red dress hanging from the tree blowing in the wind. The Tree of Hope was lit in December in memory and honour of the estimated thousands of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls across Canada. The tradition of the red-lit tree was started by Const. Sharlene Bourdeau of the Thunder Bay Police Service and has spread to police services across the region. Treaty Three Police are planning a larger event around the lighting next year as this was their first year to light a Tree of Hope.
