Tales from the snow

There’s always a story behind feathers in the snow. It appears this ruffed grouse was a welcome meal for some kind of hungry predator. Naturalist Henry Miller stumbled upon the scene. He saw no mammal tracks in the snow, so he speculates the predator was likely a goshawk or a great horned owl. He’s even spotted an owl pluck a flying grouse right out of the air before. – Henry Miler photo
