Charlene Strain, an educator and trainer for the Fort Frances branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association, led a workshop entitled “safeTALK” last Wednesday in conjunction with Mental Health Week (May 7-13). Various aspects of suicide awareness were discussed, as well as how participants can identify and engage those with suicidal thoughts. The training focuses on the aspect of “TALK” (Tell, Ask, Listen, and KeepSafe) in order to identify someone who needs help and how to connect them with those who can provide further assistance.
