Mayor Roy Avis joined Darryl Allan, Sunset Country Métis vice-president Mona Rose Morrisseau, Crystal George, Jenny Greenhalgh, Roz Calder, Paul Pirie, and Valorie Pelepetz for the raising of the Métis Nation of Ontario flag in honour of “Louis Riel Day” this morning outside the Civic Centre. The historical leader of the Métis people was hanged Nov. 16, 1885. Rainy River District has the largest Métis population in Ontario. It is hoped by Métis that one day all schools in Ontario will fly their flag.
