OECTA strike

OECTA strike

Members of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) rallied in the Rainy Lake Square in downtown Fort Frances this morning as they engage in a one-day strike. The members were walking the length of the 200 block of Scott St., including in front of Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford’s office, to protest the government’s changes to education and class sizes. Members of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) will also be striking today, and members of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) will be engaged in a one-day full withdrawal of services tomorrow. The strike today effects 918 secondary students and 72 teachers at the Rainy River District School Board (RRDSB). Tomorrow the elementary strike will effect 1,720 students and 125 teachers, as well as 130 education support personal across the RRDSB’s two bargaining unions. -Ken Kellar photo
