Mother's Day concert

Ken Kellar

The Borderland District Orchestra took to the stage with the Borderland Community Orchestra for their Mother’s Day concert at the Townshend Theatre on Sunday. The choir, under the direction of Renée Martin-Brown, joined the orchestra to sing “When You Believe” from the 1998 film “The Prince of Egypt,” and “Dry Your Tears, Afrika,” a song written by John Williams for the 1997 film “Amistad.” The concert was also held to celebrate the orchestra’s 20th year in the district. Katherine Williams began the orchestra in 1999, and the group has grown from 14 musicians to counting dozens of past and present members within its ranks.
