Members of the Sunset Country Métis Community gathered at the Fort Frances Civic Centre to raise the Métis Nation Flag on Tuesday. Tuesday was Louis Riel day, marking the anniversary of the execution of the Métis leader on Nov. 16, 1865. Métis week has been celebrated all week. Sunset Country Métis also used Tuesday to have their annual general meeting and a time of socializing after the flag raising. At the flag raising Fort Frances Mayor June Caul commended the local Métis community, saying “I think more and more come out every year and it’s so great to see and appreciate all you do for your community, and for this community and making people realize this is important history as well of the Métis people in this area.”
