Local resident Blake Yatchuk and his son, Tyler, placed a Canadian flag on the grave of Lt.-Col. John Alexander McCrae, a surgeon during the second battle of Ypres in Belgium and author of the famous war memorial poem, “In Flanders Fields,” during a nearly month-long trek through Europe last fall to explore many of the museums, monuments, and battlefields pertaining to Canadian history.
