From left, Debbie Leonard, Verna Leonard and Kathy Bombay (seated) are protesting alleged irregularities on Rainy River First Nations (RRFN). Missing are Karen Bombay and Kimberly Bombay-Dettweiler. They are protesting a delay in the community’s election, which they allege is in violation of the ratified RRFN Election Code. Bombay has been on a liquid fast since Nov. 1 in protest of these allegations. The ikwe (women) have set up camp on the grounds of the RRFN band office and intend to protest until they see results. The election has been scheduled for November 17, from its original date of October 19. The Times tried to contact RRFN Chief Robin McGinnis regarding the allegations, but had not received comment as of printing.
