Above, even the Fates can’t blame Eurydice (Cassandra Armstrong, centre) for making her choice when the chips are down, and above right, Orpheus (Ethan Brown) creates the song that will bring Spring back to the world in Fort Frances High School’s production of Hadestown, a Tony award-winning New Orleans- and jazz-inspired musical retelling of the ancient Greek myth. Hadestown originated as a limited tour and concept album in the late 2000’s before becoming an off-Broadway show in 2016 and eventually winning eight Tony Awards at the 73rd Tony Awards in 2019. The show opens tonight with doors at 6:30 at the Townshend Theatre and will run again on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights, and tickets are available online at ticketscene.ca. For more information about the show, including an inside look from actors Cassandra Armstrong, Ethan Brown and Alex Bombay-Morrison, please see tomorrow’s edition of the Fort Frances Times.
