Forward Davis Smith (white jersey) and defenceman Morgan McNeill battled it out in front of goalie Tyler Ampe during the first night of Fort Frances Lakers’ tryouts at the Ice For Kids Arena yesterday evening. More than 40 hopefuls are trying to crack the Lakers’ roster, which will comprise of 22-25 players. The second of five intrasquad games will take place tonight at 8 p.m., with two slated tomorrow and one more for Saturday morning, which fans are invited to attend. The Lakers then will play an exhibition game at Dryden next Wednesday (Sept. 1) before opening the SIJHL regular season here Sept. 17 versus Fort William.
