Reo Walton, with the United Native Friendship Centre, flipped burgers at Fort Frances Tribal Area Health Services yesterday to mark “Orange Shirt Day”—an annual recognition of the harm the residential school system did to children’s sense of self-esteem and well-being. The FFTAHS Behavioural Health Services partnered with UNFC to offer the free barbecue, as well as provide orange T-shirts and a chance for people to honour residential school survivors.
