Joan Struch, left, and Giselle Oliver worked in the hot sun Monday, handing out fire safety information to tourists entering Canada here. As of midnight Monday night, the Ministry of Natural Resources has imposed a Restricted Fire Zone (RFZ) across Northwestern Ontario because of the growing threat of wildfires resulting from a prolonged heat wave and dry weather. Under the RFZ regulations, all burning permits are suspended and all open fires are prohibited until further notice. People still can use portable gas stoves for cooking and warmth, but the public is asked to exercise extreme caution. —Duane Hicks photo
