It was the beginning of the end for the playground equipment located at the Knights of Columbus Park on the former St. Michael’s School grounds in east Fort Frances yesterday, Monday, June 2, 2025, as workers began disassembling the more than 30 year old play structure. According to the District of Rainy River Services Board (DRRSB), the property’s current owners, the structure is well-past its estimated useful lifespan of 10-15 years and posed a risk to children without regular maintenance and upkeep, the cost of which after more than 30 years and unclear maintenance history DRRSB said “could be substantial.” The deconstruction continues today.
