Clean sweep

Kids and their families have been braving the cold and wet weather, to improve their planet, one trash bag at a time. They are participating in the Treaty #3 Youth Earth Day Clean-up, and together, have collected mounds of trash through the region. Left, Ashlee Homer, 13, collected three bags full of garbage just from the ditches along Eighth Street in Fort Frances. Above, Angela Petsnick and her niece Krystal Wagner (also right) cleaned the path from Walmart to Canadian Tire, when they noticed how much garbage lined the path. Now they make a habit of bringing a garbage bag with them on walks, to “plog” – a Swedish term with blends jog and”plocka upp”, where people pick up trash as they exercise. To see all the great work our kids are doing, to benefit the Treaty#3 lands we all share and enjoy, visit #treaty3youthearthday on facebook. – Submitted photo
