Seven Generations CEO Brent Tookenay did the ceremonial puck-drop for Toronto Patriots’ captain Luke Carter and Fort Frances Lakers’ captain Miles Nolan before the two teams squared off in their first game at the Dudley Hewitt Cup last night at the Ice For Kids Arena. Wyatt Cota sent the raucous crowd of 1,132 home happy with the overtime winner to give the two-time defending SIJHL champs a 2-1 win. Marco Romano had the other Lakers’ goal. The Soo Thunderbirds dumped the Dryden GM Ice Dogs 8-1 in the tourney opener earlier yesterday. Today’s action will see Dryden face Toronto at 2 p.m., followed by the Lakers against the Soo at 7:30 p.m.
