Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in the Rainy River District

There was plenty of Irish cheer to be had this past weekend in the Rainy River District as St. Patrick’s Day celebrations were held at various times and places, to the joy of many. On Friday, March 15, 2024, the Rainycrest Auxiliary held a St. Patrick’s Day party for residents at Rainycrest Long-Term Care Home, which featured cake and ice cream, along with Irish music provided by Jerry and Jacklynne Guimond. Meanwhile in Emo, the annual St. Patrick’s Day supper was held at the St. Patrick’s Church. The event was, as usual, a big success, with meals once more de- livered to residents at Golden Age Manor, along with other residences in Emo. Mark Hyatt served as the emcee for the event, Neil Grant delivered a traditional Irish blessing before the meal was served, and to top off the evening, the Empey sisters and Hannah Weston provided music and singing, and were sure to involve all those at- tending as voices sang the traditional Irish songs, Danny Boy and Irish Eyes Are Smiling.
