Carbon tax in effect

The price at the pump has gone up five cents a litre as of Monday thanks to the new federal carbon tax. The new tax, also applied to home heating fuels and natural gas, is meant as an incentive for industries–and consumers–to innovate and find ways to lower their fossil fuel emissions. The surcharge is projected to go up to 11 cents a litre by April 2022 as the carbon tax gradually increases.
