Canadian Métis author David Bouchard spoke to a crowd of students, teachers, and other guests attending the official launch of his newest book, “The Seven Sacred Teachings of White Buffalo Calf Woman,” at the Rainy River First Nations’ new pow-wow grounds yesterday. Bouchard was inspired to write the book—based on local Ojibwe teachings—after visiting the district a few years ago and also drew upon local talent for both the book’s illustrations and translation into Ojibwe.
