The Fort Frances circle of the 121st Christmas Bird Count performed their count on Saturday December 19, organized by the Rainy River Valley Field Naturalists. Seven field teams and six feeder watchers made up eighteen participants. The team spotted 28 species and 1627 individuals. Black capped chickadees topped the list at 331 individuals. Pictured here, clockwise from left, White-wing Crossbill, Bald Eagle, White-wing Crossbill and Pine Grosbeak. Bird enthusiasts will have another event in a few weeks; the Ontario Breeding Bird Atlas Survey is looking for birds starting to nest – particularly for Crossbills.
