Fort Frances mayor Andrew Hallikas, left, and Kenora-Rainy River Alzheimer Society client services coordinator Mary O’Connor worked together to raise the Alzheimer Society flag at the Fort Frances Civic Centre yesterday afternoon to officially kick off Alzheimer Awareness Month in town. Each January the Alzheimer Society supports and leads Alzheimer Awareness Month in Canada, where it works to encourage all Canadians to learn more about dementia and how it impacts their friends, families and communities.
“Awareness is the first step to fighting stigma, reinforcing human rights and pushing for policy change, as well as other actions that can lift up people living with dementia,” the Society says on its website.
