Pharmasave surprises ITS

Staff

Having played the night before, it would have been easy for Pharmasave to mail in its effort last night.
Instead, it opted to do things the hard way, which yielded positive results.
Jeremy Nussbaumer scored twice as Pharmasave doubled International Travel Services 4-2 in the men’s division of the Borderland Soccer League last night at the Struchan Gilson Memorial Soccer Pitch.
After falling 3-1 to the La Place Rendez-Vous U18 Voyageurs on Tuesday, last-place Pharmasave (3-7) looked to be the fresher team in ending its four-game losing streak while sending third-place ITS (4-6) to its third consecutive defeat.
Nussbaumer, who goal on Tuesday was his first of the season, tripled his season output with his performance last night.
He was aided by Jeff Campbell and Callum Bolen, who each picked up their first tallies of the campaign.
Steve Hands, who lost his season debut in between the pipes on Tuesday, was more up to the task last night to record the victory.
Tyler Hamm, who started in goal before giving way to Britt Green at halftime, connected for his first goal of the year for ITS as did Jesse Fuhrer.
In women’s division action on Tuesday, a shorthanded Voyageurs squad shrugged off its manpower deficit to register a 3-1 triumph over Taggs/Source for Sports.
With only seven players compared to 12 for Taggs and riding a two-game losing skid, the first-place Vous (8-2) looked more like their old selves against last-place Taggs (2-7).
Abby Sanders mirrored Hamm’s accomplishment by playing the first half in goal and then emerging from the net in the second to blast home two goals to take over the league goal scoring lead with 10 and has scored in each of the last six games she has played.
Claire Hyatt added her sixth of the year, while Taylor Croswell came out of the bullpen to relieve Sanders in goal for the second half as the two shared the win.
Jess Caul potted her team-high seventh of the season for Taggs, with Jess Badiuk taking the loss in net.
Both divisions will be on tap tonight at 7 p.m., with Taggs going up against second-place Al’s Racquet Stringing (4-5) in women’s group play.
Meanwhile, the top two teams in the men’s category will lock horns as the first-place Vous (6-2) will try and win its third in a row to maintain sole possession of top spot against second-place Manitou Forest Products (5-4), which enters on a three-game winning streak of its own.
Anyone still interested in playing in the league this season has until July 14 to register.
