Park up for best goalie award

Staff

Nathan Park’s latest adventure has been one to savour.
The former Fort Frances Lakers’ netminder has been chosen as one of the five finalists for the CJHL’s top goalie award after a standout campaign for the Portage Terriers (MJHL).
Park, a 20-year-old native of Edmonton, led the Lakers to the SIJHL title last year.
He then started the first three games of the Dudley Hewitt Cup here before suffering a knee injury in the final round-robin game against the Dryden GM Ice Dogs.
Park was unavailable for the final two games.
He subsequently was dealt to the reigning RBC Cup national champion Terriers, along with since-returned forward Dylan Kooner, on Aug. 6 for the playing rights of Quinn Lenihan and future considerations, with Lenihan choosing not to report here.
Park led Portage to its second-straight Turnbull Cup after leading the MJHL in wins during the regular season with 38, as well as minutes played (2,655), shutouts (seven), and GAA (1.92).
He was chosen the league’s top goalie and was a first team all-star.
Portage begins play in the 2016 Western Canada Cup on Saturday in Estevan, Sask., with the tournament wrapping up May 8.
They will face the West Kelowna Warriors (BCHL), Brooks Bandits (AJHL), Melfort Mustangs (SJHL), and host Estevan Bruins to determine who will qualify for the RBC Cup on May 14-24 in Lloydminster.
