Parent shines in Rio

Fort Frances native Alex Parent competed in three events at the International Paralympic Committee World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from Nov. 30-Dec. 5.
Parent finished eighth in both the 400m freestyle (with a time of 4:34.09) and the 200m I.M. (2:27.94).
He also was ninth in the 100m backstroke—just missing the finals.
Parent currently attends McMaster University in Hamilton, where he is studying environmental science.
Canada ended up with four gold medals, five silver, and six bronze, with all the gold-medallists finishing in world record times.
