Two occupants in a Piper Super Cub aircraft were reported overdue to the Dryden OPP when the plane failed to return by dark on Monday to Stanley’s West Arm Resort on Eagle Lake.
The Canadian Rescue Co-ordination Centre was notified by the OPP and a search began.
Around 6:40 a.m. yesterday, the overdue plane and its occupants were located on McGregor Lake, southeast of Vermilion Bay.
The occupants of the plane—pilot Donald Smallwood of Britton, Colo. and passenger Norman Ennis of Texas—were located uninjured.
The plane had difficulties when trying to take off from McGregor Lake and crashed into the water.
It stayed afloat long enough for the occupants to make it to shore, where they spent the night.
The Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
