Pair of racers nab first wins


It was time for a pair of new faces to shine at the Emo Speedway on Saturday night.
Tyler Brown and Aaron Blacklance both nabbed their first checkered flags of the Borderland Racing Association season in the WISSOTA Modifieds and Midwest Modifieds divisions.
Brown, from Rainy River, earned his win over the likes of Brady Caul of Fort Frances and hometown star Brody Strachan.
His best finish this season prior to Saturday night was a seventh, still leaving him well back in the points standings.
Strachan holds a 16-point edge over Jeff Davis of Devlin (704-688) in the standings while Gary Wilson of Devlin sits third (628).
Competing in his first race of the season, Aaron Blacklance of Thief River Falls took the field by surprise by claiming both the second heat and the feature in the Midwest Modifieds.
Dayton Brady of Devlin settled for second while Tanner Williamson of the Fort was third.
James Lambert of the Fort just missed out on his third top three finish of the season and placed fourth.
It was a tough night in the division for some racers, as five ended up not even finishing.
Brady (697) holds a six-point lead over Cody Ossachuk of Fort Frances (691) in the division’s points standings while Lambert is in third (675).
In the Street Stocks division, meanwhile, Tylar Wilson of Fort Frances continued his domination in taking his fourth checkered flag of the year.
David Caruk of Thunder Bay was right behind in second while Tanner Ulakovic of Murillo nabbed his first top three finish of the year by placing third.
Raice Westover of the Fort just missed out on a podium finish.Jesse Thompson leads the division with 667 points, just 13 up on both Wilson and Westover (654).
Paul Hari is a distant fourth with 541.
Racing resumes this Saturday, with hot laps at 7 p.m. and the first heat at 7:30 (weather permitting).
