From the OPP
The Kenora OPP would like to advise the public of the dangers of fentanyl.
Fentanyl, which comes in different forms, is an extremely potent synthetic opioid prescribed to manage acute and chronic pain.
The drug is roughly 100 times more potent than morphine and 40 times more potent than heroin.
The Kenora OPP has had one incident reported to date regarding a suspected non-fatal fentanyl overdose.
The Controlled Drugs and Substances Act prohibits anyone from possessing any prescribed medication without a prescription.
It is a criminal offence to offer or sell a prescribed medication to another person.
Purchasing another person’s prescribed drug also is illegal.
The OPP is urging citizens not to keep expired/unused medication at home, and not to dispose of such medication in the garbage.
Instead, residents should contact their pharmacy to find out how to safely dispose medicines.
