Nine new cases in Kenora; several schools impacted

Northwestern Health Unit has received a report of nine new positive COVID-19 test results in the Kenora area. Some of the cases involve three schools in Kenora.
Two COVID-19 cases were reported at Valleyview Public School in Kenora
The Kenora Catholic District School Board has received notification of COVID-19 exposures impacting École Ste-Marguerite Bourgeoys and St. Thomas Aquinas High School.
All of the impacted classrooms have been closed.
The NWHU is currently investigating the cases to determine its next steps.
Yesterday, an additional case was reported in the Sioux Lookout area. It is a family member of the previous two cases, which contracted the virus during travel.
Information about gender, age and method of transmission will be posted to the Ontario COVID data website when it is available. Follow up with the persons involved and their contacts has started according to protocol. Anyone who is identified as a contact for these cases will be contacted directly and given further instruction.
It is essential that everyone assume COVID-19 is in their community and practise preventive measures like physical distancing, wearing a mask in enclosed public spaces and when physical distancing is a challenge, good hand hygiene, and not touching their face. Anyone who has symptoms, or who has been identified by public health as a close contact, should get tested.
