In our second successful year of presenting P.A.R.T.Y. (Preventing Alcohol Related Trauma for Youth) to area grade 10 students, there has been a new sponsor added: McDonald’s Restaurant of Fort Frances.
So far this school year, more than 200 students have spent a day at La Verendrye Hospital experiencing the journey of a trauma person through our health care system and hearing from the different professionals who would be involved in their care.
Fort Frances is one of 72 sites worldwide offering this unique program.
P.A.R.T.Y. helps the students make smart choices—and to realize the choices they make will affect others.
Not being able to use their hands to eat lunch also teaches them what it’s like to live every day with a head or spinal cord injury.
New this year, students from Atikokan High School and Rainy River High School “first responders” have participated, along with Grade 10 students from Fort High.
By offering this program locally, its goal is that this first-hand experience will decrease the tragic injuries suffered by local teenagers.
Since this program started, there has been no teen deaths due to drinking and driving.
