One new fire was reported yesterday—a 0.1 hectare blaze located in the Red Lake District north of Woodland Caribou Park. FireRangers and water bombers responded, and no problems are anticipated in extinguishing the blaze.
This brings the total number of active fires in the region up to four. There’s been 81 fires to date, consuming 337 ha.
In other fire news, a total of 150 Ontario fire fighters and 19 overhead staff have been deployed to assist with the forest fire situation in Alberta. Of that contingent, 60 FireRangers, and nine overhead staff are from bases in the West Fire Region.
A total of 20 fire fighters and one overhead staff member were deployed for fire line assignment in Saskatchewan on Monday.
The forest fire hazard currently ranges from “low” to “high” across the Northwest. Thunderstorms on Tuesday brought heavy localized rainfall and approximately 35,000 new lighting strikes. Some of that lighting came in to areas that are potentially receptive to lightning caused forest fires.

Under the Forest Fires Prevention Act of Ontario day burning of brush or grass is not allowed.
Burning of brush or grass should be done no sooner than two hours before sunset and it must be put it out no later than two hours after sunrise.
Choose a safe site, keep your fire small and never leave it unattended. Remember to ensure the fire is put dead out before leaving the site.
